Mo’Nique continues to be candid about her public marriage to Sidney Hicks, although she is now explaining how she finally “got out of” the arrangement.
Mo’Nique Welcomes ‘A New Chapter’ With Her Family
Her comment came during a recent sit-down with hollywood reporterand the comedian began by talking about how she and her family are in the process of welcoming “a new chapter”.
“It’s a new chapter, but not for Hollywood. It’s a new chapter because my kids are graduating from high school. It’s a new chapter because my grandson will be in kindergarten next year, and my niece will be in fifth grade.”
Mo’Nique added, “For me, those are the top priorities.”

While talking to CHEAPMo’Nique revealed that the two had started to stop dating outside of marriage, when “life started happening”.
Specifically, she said she realized she “didn’t want to sacrifice” what she and Sidney had “just for one life”. Mo’Nique also talked about how she “started to see a power [she] never seen before.” As a result, the Bessie the actress “grew up from there.”
“Life begins to happen. I began to see a power I had never seen before. He loved me at my worst. I don’t want to sacrifice that for a lie. So I’ve grown since then.
In addition to talking about the changing dynamics of their relationship, Mo’Nique praised her husband as “the best manager”.

Mo’Nique first revealed the arrangement in a 2006 interview with Perfume.
Later, reflecting on the revelation, she talked about how public marriage was entirely her idea, as she “still wants to have sex with someone. [she] saw.”
“Having an open marriage was not Sidney’s idea. It’s mine.”
While the situation was in her and Sidney’s favor, Mo’Nique acknowledged the agitated public reaction to the issue, as she notes, “People have lost their minds.”
She went on to add, “They think we’re having these orgasms.”
However, she notes that — because they’re both busy with their kids — “there isn’t much time to do a lot of slinging.”
