The perfect showcase for PS VR2

Kayak VR: Mirage is a great game for newbies as well as veterans of VR. Compared to most forms of movement in VR, sailing allows you to move in an environment in a natural and intuitive way, making it a great game to show off your brand new headset. with friends and family.

Besides the visual fidelity, we also spent a lot of time on the physics of the game. While newbies can quickly get used to kayaking, more experienced kayakers can maneuver with the precision they expect from a true kayak. This focus on natural physics also applies to the rest of the environment: plants, floating ice, and debris all respond realistically to your paddle and kayak.

Relax on the water

When designing the environment, we want you to feel like you’ve arrived at the perfect time. Paddle beneath the Aurora Australis, watch a whale take to the air or listen to the sound of water breaking on the cliffs. These calming moments are designed to balance out the multitude of intense gameplay available in VR and help you unwind after a long day or after an intense gaming session.

Sea and wildlife are an important part of our design philosophy. Watch penguins jump off cliffs, a turtle finds its way from the beach into the water, and dolphins swim alongside you as you speed up. You can even try catching fish with your paddle. But be gentle, like real fish, they will automatically swim away based on the position and speed of impact.

Immersion and sound

Sound is so important to an immersive VR experience, so we really took the time to identify the sounds of different locations. Crashing your kayak into a rock sounds different if you’re in an ice cave than the coast in Norway. The overall soundscape also plays a key role in immersing you in the experience, getting caught up in a thunderstorm that not only looks fierce, but also sounds intense.

The background music is adjusted to change with the time of day and weather conditions. If you’re racing, we’ll encourage you with a stronger rhythm to get up to speed, while sailing under the stars at night in freeride mode, you’ll hear a soundtrack calmer and more peaceful.

Where games and sports meet

Whether you want to be comfortable and enjoy the scenery or scratch the itch of competition and get hot and sweaty In racing mode the game will help you. Every environment has multiple tracks that allow you to race asynchronously against your friends or leaderboards. And even if you don’t like racing, the game keeps track of how far you’ve traveled daily and weekly in any mode, so you can challenge yourself to go all the way.

Perfect rendering of PS VR2 and OLED HDR screen

When we first watched the game on PS VR2, we couldn’t believe how alive the world felt. Foveated rendering lets games look sharper than we’ve ever seen, and the PS VR2’s OLED HDR display gives nighttime levels a new dimension.

We hope this information has got you as excited as we are for the game’s release on February 22, 2023! Looking forward to seeing you on the water!
