Lionsgate took on the challenge of portraying a legend Michael Jackson in an upcoming biopic of the same name. And the main actor, Michael’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, created some buzz around the project. The 26-year-old singer-songwriter is the son of Jermaine Jackson.
Posing in a classic Michael move and style, Jaafar reacted to the casting on his Instagram feed. He wrote:
“I am humbled and honored to bring the story of my uncle Michael to life. To all the fans around the world, I will see you soon.”
Based on limit line, Antoine Fuquadirector of movies like liberate, release, free and training day, will be in charge of directing the Jackson biopic. Fuqua also confirmed the news on its Insta page. John Logan is in charge of the script. Graham Knight, GK Films, and Michael Jackson legacy co-executives John Branca and John McClain will co-produce the project.
If you didn’t know, Michael’s estate ended up in the hands of Jackson’s entertainment attorney, Branca, and music executive McClain based on a 2002 will. This document is the only will available after the one. Jackson’s sudden death at age 50 on June 25, 2009.
Limit line reports that Jaafar has been singing and dancing since the age of 12. While the film will highlight Jackson’s popularity, it is expected to be inevitably controversies, including allegations of pedophilia.
There is no information on a release date for the biopic, and each limit line, the film may still be looking for a foreign partner to debut. Sony may be involved, according to the outlet’s sources.
Taj Jackson, Tito Jackson’s first child, reacted positively to the news on Twitter—honoring his cousin’s talent.
He tweeted:
“They found the perfect and only person who could play my uncle in this Biopic. I cried with pride after watching Jaafar’s hair/makeup test yesterday. He’s not just the embodiment of Michael Jackson…he’s got the tone, the rhythm of the voice, the style, EVERYTHING!”
Last August, Taj received media coverage after he called for Rolling Stone for naming Harry Styles the ‘New King of Pop’, a title MJ fans have long defended upon his death. Taj argued that the title was dropped, due to Jackson’s “Decades of dedication and sacrifice.”
