Miami Beach releases ad to deter spring breakers (SEE)


Social media users are sharing their reactions after the city of Miami Beach released a commercial specifically targeting spring break.

According to NBC News, Miami Beach released the ad campaign on Friday, March 1. In the clip, multiple individuals speak directly to the camera in what initially appears to be a conversation about a breakup. .

“Hey, we need to talk,” advertising begins. “This doesn’t work anymore. And it’s not us, it’s you. We just want different things.”

Individuals continued to share their ideas of a “fun time.” These include relaxing on the beach, going to the spa and going to restaurants.

“But you just want to get drunk in public and ignore the law,” trade continues. “Do you remember what happened last March?”

The ad then transitions to covering Miami Beach’s 2023 spring break season. News headlines regarding shootings, liquor store closures, and emergency declarations flash across the screen.

“That’s our breaking point so we’re breaking up with you,” trade continues. “And don’t try to apologize and then come back. This is not safe. So we’re done.”

To ensure the message gets through to users, the ad goes on to list various restrictions that will be in place to ensure safety in Miami Beach during spring break this year.

According to the source, the 2024 spring break restrictions will be in effect from Thursday to Sunday every week in March.

Here’s what happened during spring break last year in Miami

According to NBC News, the city’s ad comes a year after Miami Beach declared a state of emergency following two deadly spring break shootings.

A March 2023 report from the outlet added that in the first incident, two men were found with gunshot wounds. Furthermore, a person succumbs to their injuries. In the second incident, another man died while the suspect was in custody.

In addition to the deadly shootings, 2023 also marks the third year Miami Beach has declared a state of emergency due to “unruly crowds” engaging in “dangerous and illegal behavior,” according to NBC News.
