Heavily redesigned, limited-edition models have been a money-maker for more exclusive brands, such as Bentley and Ferrari, and Mercedes-Benz is looking to get in on the action with its new feature legend limit.
The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed conceptwas launched on the eve of the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, previewing the first model in the Mythos range, which is expected to enter production in 2025.

In place of the traditional windscreen and A-pillar setup is a Halo frame that splits the cabin in half and is similar to the one fitted to all Formula 1 racing cars since 2018. There are small fairings at the front and two The side of the car helps to direct air out of the cabin.
Although a pair of aerodynamic helmets are supplied with the vehicle, there is no room for any other passengers, the rear seats being replaced by a pair of flying pillars.
The PureSpeed’s paint color changes from red to gray on the rear wheel arches. According to Mercedes-Benz, the red paint is a call back to the company’s winning car in the 1924 Targa Florio race in Sicily. The car was painted red, like other Italian racing cars of the era, to “prevent local fans from hindering the car’s progress during the race”.
In addition to being converted from a convertible into a speedster, the PureSpeed also has a unique front bumper designed to resemble the Mercedes-AMG One. The PureSpeed’s “shark nose” front end features glossy black air intakes with bold white AMG lettering.
The large three-pointed star on Mercedes sports cars has been moved from its usual position in the middle of the grille to the top of the bumper.
The PureSport rides on a set of star-shaped alloy wheels with carbon fiber inner rings. The gap between the spokes on the front wheel is open to improve brake cooling and downforce, while the gap between the spokes on the rear wheel is closed for aerodynamic benefits.
Interior changes are relatively minor, with a unique color scheme and IWC Schaffhausen clock on the dashboard being the main differences.
Mercedes-Benz hasn’t said which SL powertrain powers the PureSpeed, but it could be the 430kW/800Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 from the SL 63 4Matic+ or the plug-in hybrid V8 from the SL 63 S E-Performance.
Since production has yet to be revealed, it’s unclear how much the PureSpeed will cost. Even if you come home to find a pile of gold bars weighing down your dresser, Mercedes-Benz says the PureSpeed will be “available only to the most dedicated Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts and collectors.”
PureSpeed production will be limited to 250 units.
