Mercedes-AMG GLC raises the bar with hybrid power for 2025

A host of improvements, upgraded performance parts, and for the first time mixture the powertrain is mounted on a SUV Mercedes-AMG are the highlights of the new brand AMG GLC models announced today.

Several interior and exterior design elements have changed in both the petrol and hybrid SUVs. the latter of which, the AMG GLC 43for 416 horsepower with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and permanent all-wheel drive.

The Mercedes-AMG-specific hybrid powertrain in the GLC 63 SE Performance combines the AMG M139l 2.0-liter turbocharged engine above with an Electric Drive Unit (EDU) on the rear axle to deliver a combined 671 hp. and 752 lb-ft combined torque system.

The 201-horsepower electric motor is located on the rear axle, where it is integrated with an electrically-shifted two-speed transmission and an electronically controlled rear-wheel-drive limited-slip differential in a compact electric drive.

Mercedes says that the stand-alone hybrid layout also “ensures a balanced weight distribution.” For the purists, the electric-only mode allows for all-electric driving under “certain conditions” – weather and terrain permitting, we guess. 400 volts battery mimics the power pack used by the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team in Formula 1 racing, specifically designed to generate fast and suction power by directly cooling the cells.

The multi-clutch transmission (MCT) found in both GLC models uses a wet-start clutch to replace the torque converter. The result, according to a press release, is software that offers “extremely short shift times as well as as many quick downshifts as needed.” And don’t forget to mention the “RACE START” function, AMG’s version of the launch control, which ensures optimal acceleration from a standstill.

In the GLC 63 SE Performance 4MATIC+ system, engine torque can be distributed continuously and on demand from 50/50 between the front and rear axles up to 100% to the rear axle.

On the matter of stopping, the premium hybrid is designed with a six-piston fixed caliper at the front (15.4 x 1.4-inches that are internally ventilated and perforated). brake disc) and single-piston floating brake calipers at the rear (14.6 x 1 in). The (relatively) more economical Benz gets four-piston calipers up front.

The GLC 63, instead of using the electronic brake stabilization program when it detects wheel slip, reduces the driving torque of the electric motor, which is transmitted to the wheels via a microprocessor. wrongly limit rear wheel slip. As a result, the company says, “the ESP does not have to throttle the internal combustion engine, allowing the engine to operate at higher torque. This improves agility and the reduced energy can be used to charge the battery.”

In terms of creature comforts, leather and “performance” seats are options. The MBUX infotainment system features AMG-specific screens and functions. These include special displays on the instrument cluster, central multimedia display and optional windshield display. AMG’s exclusive “Supersport” style offers the option to display driver-focused content in portrait format.

The petrol-only GLC 43 is for 2024, while the GLC 63 SE Performance hybrid is a 2025 model. No price has been given for either. Present AMG GLC 43 Coupé starting at $68,200 plus destination.
