McLaren P1 vs McLaren P1 GTR vs Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Drag Race

Are you curious if a road car is faster than a race car in a speedway? Well, no matter what your answer is, we want to find out!

We took one of the craziest supercars – the McLaren P1 – and pitted it against its racing counterpart, the McLaren P1 GTR, to find out which is the fastest.

The P1 will then face off against South Korea’s all-electric rocket: Hyundai Ioniq 5N 2024.

Thanks again to Hyundai for helping cover the costs of making this series – it is VERY expensive, so without your support it wouldn’t be possible, you can Read more about that here.

The cars

I remember when the trio of supercars were released. There was the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari – all crazy cars in their own right.

We tried to get one of those three things – one McLarenP1.

The P1 is a beast in every way: a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, an electric motor, 674kW of power, 900Nm of torque and limited to just 375 units worldwide. McLaren claims it’s the world’s first hybrid supercar.

According to official information, McLaren said the car can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds and from 0-200km/h in 6.8 seconds.

If you already own a McLaren P1, the door opens to owning even more limited cars P1 GTR. This P1 GTR is also for sale! So if you are interested, please contact LEE Collection.

Priced at over $3 million when it was first launched, the P1 GTR could extract an additional 46kW from its internal combustion engine and an additional 15kW from its electric motor.

The racing version weighs just 1,440kg – around 50kg lighter than the regular P1.

The challenger can achieve

Priced from $111,000 before on-road costs, the car is all-electric. Hyundai Ioniq 5N uses a four-wheel drive electric powertrain with two motors producing 448kW of power and 740Nm of torque.

Those outputs increase 478kW And 770Nm with N Grin Boost function – can be combined with launch control function. It has an acceleration time from 0-100km/h which is said to be 3.4 seconds with N Grin Boost active.

It also has a bunch of other features like the ability to destroy tires, make engine noises, and even fake gear changes to make it feel like an internal combustion car with a DCT gearbox.

Result

Honestly, this was the craziest drag race we’ve ever been in. Both cars were terrible off the start line and on the quarter mile. Traction was limited and it wasn’t until the tires warmed up that we were able to get any decent power.

The rough surface also made it difficult to record accurate times, but we tried anyway!

Mean of transportation 0-100km/h 80-120km/h 0-200km/h 1/4 mile
McLarenP1 3.94 seconds 1.84 seconds 10.98 seconds 11.46 seconds at 205.35km/h
McLaren P1 GTR 3.99 seconds 1.48 seconds 8.30 seconds 10.65 seconds at 239.97km/h
Hyundai Ioniq 5N 3.52 seconds 1.86 seconds 11.32 seconds at 195.92km/h
