According to Fox 35 Orlando, 22 years old Chassidy Gardner was recently booked into the Polk County Jail. She has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The newspaper added that on Friday, June 14, Gardner got into an altercation with drive-through customers while working a shift at the fast food restaurant.

The Lakeland Police Department reported via Facebook that “the dispute began… when the customer/Victim felt their order was incorrect.”

In turn, Gardner allegedly began arguing with the customer. Then, as they tried to leave the window, Gardner allegedly threw a drink at the patron.

“Two of the customers got out of their vehicle and opened the drive-through window to throw a drink at Gardner, who then armed himself with a handgun,” the police department’s Facebook post added. .

At that time, the customer allegedly drove to another location in the parking lot as Gardner left the store. The McDonald’s employee was reportedly armed and was said to have fired a gun at the customer’s car, which was said to have been “hit at least once”.

“The customers drove around the west side of the business and Gardner went outside the business with a gun to further argue. While still outside, Gardner opened fire as the vehicle was leaving the parking lot and the Victim’s vehicle was struck at least once. Gardner has been arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,” the post concluded.

According to a June 18 report from NBC 6 South Florida, it is unclear whether anyone was injured in the shooting.

McDonald’s franchisees commented on the incident

According to Law & Crime, Gardner was released from Polk County Jail on $15,000 bail on Saturday, June 15. The agency added that it is unclear whether she has retained an attorney.

Meanwhile, the fast food location’s franchisee, Lanny Sumpter, has issued a statement on the matter.

“The safety and well-being of customers and crew is of the utmost importance to me as a business owner and I am shocked and confused by the actions of this employee,” Sumpter said. “Violence of any kind is never tolerated in my organization and employees have been terminated following several violations of organizational policies. We will continue to work with law enforcement on their ongoing investigation.”
