Mazda CX-60 2023 price: Inline-six from under $60,000

Mazda Australia has released pricing and detailed specifications for its most luxurious SUV to date, the CX-60, although it won’t reach customers until June 2023.

The CX-60 will be powered by new inline-six petrol and diesel engines, but the headliner is a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Prices range from $59,800 to $87,252 before on-road costs, with a few option packs available above this.

Mazda has stuck with familiar variant nameplates, with the CX-60 available in Evolve, GT, and Azami spec levels.

powertrain

At the top of the range is Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid, called the ‘e-Skyactiv PHEV’.

It combines a 2.5-liter petrol engine with an electric drive motor and a large 17.8 kWh battery pack in the floor between the axles, with system outputs of 241 kW and 500 Nm – enough to boost 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

This makes the CX-60 PHEV the most powerful Mazda to date.

Mazda also claims an overall electric range in EV mode of up to 76km, although in the UK claiming a more realistic WLTP rating of 62km is still good. Fuel consumption is rated at 2.1L/100km, for the first 100km when fully charged.

Mazda claims the battery can be recharged in about 2.5 hours using a 7.2 kW AC wall-box home charger.

Meanwhile, both the six-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines share the same 3.3-litre displacement and join the lineup for the first time, with each engine using mild hybrid technology’ M Hybrid Boost’ is based on 48V.

The petrol engine is expected to produce 209kW and 450Nm and deliver a 0-100km/h time of 6.9 seconds – a time Mazda points out as almost a second faster than the CX. -5 with a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.

The diesel engine delivers 187kW and 550Nm and accelerates from 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds. It also offers a hybrid beat fuel economy claims only 4.9L/100km.

“Mazda’s size-appropriate engine design approach gives the e-Skyactiv D turbocharged diesel engine the same weight as a conventional four-cylinder diesel engine. It also provides a wide speed range at which scorching can occur,” the company claims.

“… High power actually improves efficiency with higher air intake allowing for more complete combustion and a wider lean combustion range resulting in lower fuel use and reduced NOx emissions.”

All engines are mated to a newly developed eight-speed automatic transmission and a new rear-axle four-wheel drive system with Normal, Sport, Terrain, Traction and EV drive settings ( for PHEVs only).

Technology and safety

The CX-60 is underpinned by Mazda’s new ‘Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture’, which is designed as rear- or all-wheel drive and will form the basis of higher-end models in the future. future.

Driver assistance systems include ‘Pure View’ for the 360-degree camera; and a system that adjusts the seats, wheels, windshield and mirror displays to match the driver’s eye position and uses facial recognition to remember presets for media, sound and climate.

The ‘Driver In/Out Assist’ function slides the steering wheel and seats out of place to make it easier for the driver to get in and out of the Mazda CX-60.
