Masayasu Ito, Architect of PS4 and PS5, leaves SIE

Masayasu Ito, the engineer who played a key role in creating the hardware behind the PlayStation 4, PS4 Pro and PS5, is leaving Sony. A report in Bloomberg, followed by one notification on the Japanese company’s website, confirmed Ito’s departure. Masayasu Ito joined Sony in 1986, initially working on car audio equipment. He moved to the console division in 2000, the same year as the launch of the PlayStation 2. There he worked on accessories for the PS2. As part of the PlayStation team, he later led engineering for the PlayStation 4, PS4 Pro mid-generation upgrade, and PlayStation 5. After leaving Sony Interactive Entertainment, Masayasu Ito will be replaced by Lin Tao, SIE’s current Senior Vice President of Finance, Corporate Development and Strategy. Ito will be assigned to the Mobile division and will continue to support the SIE Platform Experience Team as an “Executive Advisor” until March 2023.
