Martinez from Arroyo outbreak with illness
WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez was forced to withdraw from his rematch against McWilliams Arroyo due to illness.
Martinez and Arroyo were set up for the Rodriguez-Rungvisai card feature match in San Antonio, live on DAZN.
‘El Rey’ previously faced Arroyo back in November 2021, with both men trading knockdowns in a wild three-round fight before accidentally heading from Mexico resulted in a no-dispute ruling.
“Julio Cesar Martinez was forced to withdraw from our June 25 performance in San Antonio due to illness,” a statement from Matchroom Boxing read. “#FordMedia will now be elevated to the main card. ”
World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman also confirmed the bout was off and added that he was frustrated by the ‘terrible situation’.
