Malaysia’s May 2023 car sales up 32.7% – MAA
The Malaysian Automobile Association (MAA) has revealed vehicle sales data for May 2023, of which a total of 61,795 units were delivered to customers. This figure represents an increase of 32.7% compared to the 46,583 units sold in April 2023.
According to the association, the recovery was driven by a number of factors, including auto companies completing backlogs of orders as well as orders received for newly launched models.
On a year-over-year basis, vehicle sales in May 2023 were 22% higher than in May 2022, with sales reaching 50,663 units for the month. The year-to-date total (YTD) now stands at 300,978 units, 12.3% higher than the total industry volume (TIV) for the same period in 2022.
For June 2023, the association expects sales to remain at the level of May 2023 as demand for new motor vehicles remains resilient due to a high backlog of orders, although registrations may decline. light.
In terms of output, in May 2023, 64,930 vehicles were produced, higher than 41,160 vehicles in April 2023 and an increase of 32% compared to May 2022. Production output from the beginning of the year to the end of May 2023 was 304,484 vehicles, 18% higher than the same period last year.
