Malaysian Primary Healthcare Giant CareClinics Partners with HIMSS for Digital Transformation

CareClinics, a private clinic group in Malaysia, has signed an agreement with HIMSS to accelerate its digital transformation.

Founded in 2003, the company operates a network of more than 100 primary health care clinics across the country.

Under the memorandum of understanding, CareClinics will leverage HIMSS digital capabilities and maturity framework to build a digital health ecosystem that “supports patient-centric care, predictive population health and a proactive approach to health and wellness for Malaysians”.

CareClinics will also have access to HIMSS’ global network of experts and specialists to support the group’s increased adoption of digital technology.

Additionally, CareClinics will partner with HIMSS on education and workforce development initiatives such as curated courses and professional certifications to enhance the digital health capabilities and competencies of the workforce.

THE BIGGER TREND

The Malaysian Ministry of Health is currently pushing to reform the healthcare system through digital transformation. A key initiative is the implementation of a national EMR system to realize the vision of “one person, one record”.

The government has been piloting a national EMR project since 2021; it is expected to be completed next year. Full implementation of the national EMR system is targeted for 2026.

Last year in January, The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council, the agency responsible for promoting the country’s medical tourism, has begun a partnership with HIMSS to drive digital transformation at hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide.

ON RECORD

“The partnership between CareClinics and HIMSS represents an exciting step forward in transforming healthcare, especially in the often overlooked area of primary care. By integrating global standards from the beginning of the EMR development process, we aim to set the benchmark for digital healthcare worldwide. This partnership will strengthen data-driven, preventive care, enabling us to anticipate patient needs and deliver safer, higher-quality care. Our shared vision is to build a future where primary care is proactive, personalized, and an integral part of global health advancements. Together, we are not just improving primary care – we are reimagining it,” said Dr. Thirunavukarasu Rajoo, CEO of CareClinics.

“We are honored to partner with CareClinics in their digital transformation journey. We have seen Malaysia make significant strides in digitalizing the healthcare sector over the past few years and CareClinics is poised to become a role model for healthcare facilities in the country. By optimizing the use of technology to improve processes and outcomes, CareClinics will be able to meaningfully impact the health of approximately two million patients each year,” Simon Lin, APAC Regional General Manager and Vice President of HIMSS, also commented.
