Malaysia Healthcare Tourism Board partners with HIMSS for digital support



A new memorandum of understanding has been signed between HIMSS and the Malaysian Medical Tourism Board.

Based on the agreement, HIMSS will act as a strategic partner of MHTC to strengthen Malaysia’s healthcare ecosystem through digital transformation.

Established in 2009, MHTC is a government agency under the Malaysian Ministry of Health responsible for promoting the country’s healthcare tourism industry. It works with industry players and service providers to make Malaysia the leading global healthcare destination under the “Malaysia Healthcare” brand.

In this partnership, HIMSS will invite leading hospitals in Malaysia to work on their recognition of the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Receipt Model (EMRAM) through the end of Phase 7. MHTC would then recommend HIMSS EMRAM, a facility’s measure of EMR maturity, to all of its 73 member hospital patients.

The partnership also aims to develop Malaysia’s healthcare tourism industry in line with the Malaysia Healthcare Tourism Industry Blueprint 2021-2025. It covers four areas:

  • Knowledge sharing and capacity building initiative promote the continuous adoption of technology and digital in the Malaysian Health ecosystem;

  • Strategic Thought Leadership Initiative to build a value proposition for Malaysia by leverage the resources, expertise and capabilities of both parties in healthcare and wellness tourism;

  • Leverage HIMSS .’s regional and global network as thought leadership communication profile and increase the reach of Malaysia Healthcare, especially in the identified regions focus market; and

  • Creating new avenues for strategic industry collaboration to prepare Malaysia’s private hospitals to adopt digital maturity models and engage in government-to-government partnerships to share knowledge.

In the context of the transition to an era of endemic diseases, it recognizes the need for continued innovation and digitization to propel the wellness tourism industry forward while ensuring sustainable growth.
