Make Sure Hyatt Draws Right Free Night Prize – The Points Guy
Imagine the disappointment of staying at a 3rd class Hyatt hotel and accidentally paying for it with a Certificate of free night type 1-7 – all while one Certificate of Free Night Class 1-4 located in your account. Oh.
This experience taught me about a Hyatt’s World Weird thing you should know. Here’s how to make sure Hyatt gets the right certificates from your account.
Hyatt’s 2 types of free night awards
Hyatt’s World released two free night prizes: 1-4 . Free Night Rewards And Category 1-7 free night prizes.
The former can be used at any property rated in categories 1-4 above Hyatt Awards Ranking. They are not affected by Hyatt Peak and Low Rates, or. As long as you can find a standard award room at an eligible hotel, you can use this certificate there.
You can earn these free nights in the following ways:
Tier 1-7 free night rewards are more valuable, allowing you to use them at Hyatt properties in grades 1-7 and all-inclusive property in the AD directory.
These awards are also harder to earn. You’ll need 60 qualifying nights with Hyatt in a year to earn your Category 1-7 certification, which also qualifies you Top Globalization status.

Pull the right certificate
If you have both types of prizes in your account, you do not want to use Category 1-7 prizes while staying at a Category 1-4 hotel. Unfortunately, I did it without realizing it on a short notice booking at the Grand Hyatt Incheon.

When booking a hotel online and using the free night bonus, Hyatt’s website automatically collects the pre-expired rewards. You do not have the option to choose a lower value prize.
To resolve this, call World of Hyatt reservations at 1-800-544-9288 or contact My Hyatt Concierge (if you have).

bottom line
Using the Tier 1-7 free night bonus at a Tier 1-4 property feels like you’ve paid too much. Unfortunately, you can’t change the reward type after your stay, so it’s a good idea to make sure Hyatt uses the correct rewards type in advance.
