Lynk & Co Phone Pro Unveiled – New Device Developed with Meizu, Promises Deeper Car Integration

Meizu 21 Pro

While it may seem odd, automakers selling phones isn’t entirely unheard of these days — at least in China. The Middle Kingdom has seen a number of car-branded devices launch over the past few years, including from Do not have and even Polestar.

Now, there’s a new company that’s looking to get into the game, and that’s Lynk & Co. The company’s general manager in China, Lin Jie, who is also vice president of Geely Auto Group, posted a photo on Weibo that was allegedly taken with the Lynk & Co Phone Pro, showing off the phone’s excellent low-light camera capabilities.

The specs that come with the photo show a 24mm primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture. As China Car News Turns out, it’s the same camera found on the Meizu 21 Pro flagship smartphone. That’s no surprise, since the Polestar Phone is also based on that device.

What connects these three? The manufacturers – Lynk & Co and Polestar – are of course owned by Geely, while Meizu is acquired by Geely founder and chairman Li Shufu in 2022. The Chinese conglomerate has been busy putting the acquisition to good use, partnering with Meizu to develop a new infotainment operating system called Flyme Auto – software that will appear on Proton eMas 7 (stylized as e.MAS 7) when it arrives here later in the year.

No details have been revealed yet, but we can expect the specs to be similar to the 21 Pro. This includes the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, a 6.79-inch full HD+ AMOLED display, a triple camera setup that includes a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera, a 5,050mAh battery, 50W wireless charging, and IP68 water and dust resistance. The phone also integrates AI-powered language models, enabling features like AI-generated voice control.

The same Polestar phone can mirror its apps on the Polestar car’s touchscreen

As for why these automakers are selling their own phones, it’s simple – deeper integration with their in-car infotainment systems. In the case of the Polestar Phone, the device can be used to unlock and start the car using ultra-wideband technology, seamlessly integrate with the car’s voice control system, and mirror the phone’s apps on the car’s display. The phone’s interface also features icons similar to what you’ll find in a Polestar car. Expect similar functionality on the Lynk & Co Phone Pro.

However, these features are already supported on regular Meizu phones in cars with Flyme Auto, so perhaps this is just another sign that automakers are trying to cash in on China’s bustling smartphone market. In any case, Meizu’s integration with Flyme Auto is a good sign for Meizu 21 owners (the Pro version isn’t available here, unfortunately), who can expect their phones to work with eMas 7.
