Ludvig Åberg’s professional career will have another first this week, although he wishes he could have avoided it. According to Todd Lewis of Golf ChannelThe 24-year-old will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to repair a torn meniscus that will keep him out for about a month. The injury began the week of the Wells Fargo Championship in May when Åberg withdrew from the competition due to left knee pain.

“Ludvig Åberg will have arthroscopic surgery this week to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee that has been bothering him since the spring,” Lewis reported. “Ludvig should be able to hit the ball three to four weeks after surgery. He could potentially play again in 2024 on a limited schedule.”

After withdrawing from the Wells Fargo Championship, Åberg returned to action the following week at the PGA Championship at Valhalla. Arriving in Louisville with a brace on his left knee, the smooth-hitting right-hander struggled to bend down properly to read the shot and ultimately missed the cut in his championship debut.

While Åberg’s green-reading technique didn’t return to normal for the rest of the season, his play did. In his last nine starts on the PGA Tour schedule, the Swede has three top-five finishes and a T12 finish at the U.S. Open after holding a 36-hole lead. Åberg finished his first full PGA Tour season on Sunday with a lone tie for 16th at the Tour Championship, but his year isn’t over yet.

“I’m probably going to take a little break, make sure I have time to recover, have time to do some things, and I’m definitely going to be playing the DP World Tour in Abu Dhabi, Dubai,” Åberg said ahead of the Tour Championship. “Those are my plans right now. It could change. But that’s where I’m at right now.”

Currently eighth in the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai, Åberg’s return will come in the final two events on the European Tour schedule. The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is scheduled for November 7-10, with the DP World Tour Championship taking place the following week from November 14-17.
