Lordstown recall, California tire performance, Rivian charging station fan: Car News Today
California controls tire replacement efficiency Rivian thinks of charging stations that heat up electric truck batteries as they charge. And Lordstown Motors is recalling Endurance for propulsion problems. This and more, at Green Car Reports.
Lordstown Motors has Endurance electric truck production halt due to “performance and quality issues”. While the company didn’t reveal what those things were, it said it had filed paperwork to recall 19 trucks due to a problem that could lead to loss of propulsion while driving.
Rivian is thinking about having some DC fast charging station blows cool air under the truck while they are plugged in, for faster charging. That could reduce the need for some oversized built-in coolers that are only used for charging; but that sounds like inefficient use of power from the grid.
And California is considering minimum efficiency standards for replacement tires, which helps ensure that hybrids and electric vehicles originally sold with performance-focused rubber receive comparable replacements. The state says it can save a lot of money and emissions over the life of the vehicle.
