Locked Takes Next Step in Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity
In his stakes debut off an impressive maiden win at Saratoga Race Course, Locked circled rivals in the far turn and then prevailed in a stretch duel with The Wine Steward to win the $600,000 Breeders’ Futurity (G1) Oct. 7 at Keeneland.
The top two were followed home by longshot Generous Tipper in third in the 1 1/16-mile test for 2-year-olds.
Campaigned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Walmac Farm, Locked is trained by Todd Pletcher. He was guided to victory Saturday by Jose Ortiz. Bred in Kentucky by Rosa Colasanti, Locked is a son of Gun Runner .
As the Breeders’ Futurity is a Breeders’ Cup Challenge race, Locked earned a fee-paid berth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) Nov. 3 at Santa Anita Park through the Win & You’re In series.
