Lionel Messi will remain absent from Inter Miami’s squad during the international break

Lionel Messi will not play on Saturday when Miami Alliance visit Chicagomeaning he will have at least two more weeks to continue his recovery from the ankle injury.

This will be the ninth consecutive time Major League Soccer match and the 15th league match this season that Messi has missed for Inter Miami, the top team in the league and has secured a place in the playoffs. He has not played for the club since June 1, his first absence while playing for Argentina in South American Cup tournament and then due to ankle problems.

Messi was injured while playing for Argentina in the Copa América final on July 14. He returned to group training with Inter Miami earlier this week.

Not playing on Saturday means the earliest Messi will feature in another match is September 14, when Inter Miami face Philadelphia. He was not selected to play in Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers in early September.

Messi has scored 12 goals and had 13 assists in 12 MLS games this season.

According to The Associated Press.
