NS Hyundai The seven partners aren’t the only big, bold electric SUVs in LA this year. That has its own point and it is a modernized version of the traditional boxy utility vehicle called the Concept EV9. It also previews one of the next productions Electric Car For the brand, it’s like being at home besides things like Telluride.
Talk about Telluride, the Concept EV9 is almost the same size as the three-row SUV. It’s about 3 inches shorter than the Telluride, but also 3 inches wider. The height is also roughly the same, but the wheelbase is quite different. At 122 inches, the EV9 adds almost 8 inches of space between the wheels.
This sizable canvas is a classic two-sided box with many polished body panels. The nose of the car is mostly mesh-free and to make up for that, it has a little bit of light bouncing off the main, vertical headlight units. The flat hood has a type of vent that extracts the air and is concealed inside are solar panels to provide a little bit a little charge for the battery. On top of the SUV are electrically retractable roof rails so you can choose between higher carrying capacity or better aerodynamics. At the rear are slender taillights that rise up into the D-pillar, which also has a triangular shape reminiscent of soul. There is also a set of 22-inch wheels machined with an extremely large triangle.
The interior is spacious and airy thanks to the huge wheelbase and large windows all around. The design is an evolution of today’s interiors, with tools and infotainment displayed on a 27-inch screen floating above the dashboard. It features a variety of green materials such as upholstery made from recycled plastic bottles and wool fibers, floors made from fishing nets and “vegan leather”, which this author humbly suggests should continue to be called “fake leather”. , or perhaps just “fake leather”. Kia also added some reconfiguration capabilities to the cabin. The normal, forward-facing layout called Active Mode is used for driving. Pause mode flips the front seats to face the third row, while the second row folds into a table. Enjoy mode rotates all three rows to the rear so occupants can see through the open hatch. Somehow, we doubt this view deserves the second and first rows in this setup, but it could be great for the third row and could be ideal for navigation.
As a concept, there are no in-depth details about the EV9’s powertrain. All Kia says is that it uses the same E-GMP platform as EV6 and different models from Hyundai and Genesis. It will have a range of up to 300 miles and support for DC 350 kW fast charging. Presumably, it will also be able to power other accessories like the EV6 and will certainly be available with a dual-motor with all-wheel drive. The exact time frame for the production model has not been announced.
