On December 12, in an interview with NFL Network’s Kurt Warner, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield cited “the insides” as an obstacle he had to overcome this year. What he means is a bit vague, but it doesn’t exactly paint a rosy picture of the situation in ‘Land:
“It’s important that you try to find an even balance in listening to the opinions that really matter around you – friends, family, teammates,” Mayfield says. “That’s the hard part this year: There’s a lot of stuff inside. It’s not just outside noise. “

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was aware of Mayfield’s comments and issued a vague, coach-like response in response:
“I talk to Baker every week, every day, so I think we have a good connection,” says Stefanski. “But I think all of us – coaches, players – as we move forward, with all these big games, this week’s AFC opponents, our focus is always on the same thing. page and do what we need to do to win.”
Stefanski doesn’t exactly dispel Mayfield’s words, but coaches often speak in tongues, so consider this a bullet of dodge rather than an indictment.
It was not the season anyone in Cleveland envisioned: With numerous injuries to key attacking players (including Mayfield), drama with Odell Beckham Jr. (debut) and a mid-range attacking comeback, the Browns’ hopes at the AFC North are somewhat surprising that the crown is still alive.
Mayfield’s injury is the main focus in 2021: He is dealing with a complete tear in his left shoulder (which cannot be thrown), as well as heel and knee injuries. He has also faced a rib injury that forced him to sit out a game.
It all ended well: The Browns topped the Ravens this past weekend to keep hope for their division alive.
