Kawasaki ZX-4R | 80hp four-cylinder super sport coming soon
Kawasaki ZX-4R 4-cylinder 2023 NEW!
Kawasaki has just announced a new line of 399 cc four-cylinder supersports, which will top the four-cylinder ZX-25R and arrive in Australia from the third quarter of 2023, with pricing to be confirmed.
The Ninja ZX-4R adds a new 399 cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine to the ZX-25R-inspired chassis, with the Ninja ZX-4R SE and Ninja ZX- 4RR will also be available. Only the Ninja ZX-4R and ZX-4RR variants will arrive in Australia at this stage, neither of which will be LAMS compliant.
Kawasaki is promising the kind of kit you’d expect from their Ninja ZX family, keep in mind that the more popular basic beginner’s Ninja 400 is actually the EX400, not the ‘real’ Ninja ZX, this will certainly benefit newcomers, both on the road and at the wallet.
Obviously the Ninja ZX-4R will demand a much higher premium than the learner-friendly Ninja 400. The ZX-25R was previously not imported into Australia due to its high price. In the confirmed Ninja ZX-4R comparison, there are no doubt impressive performance numbers.
This is by no means a higher technical standard than the ZX-10R or ZX-6R, with its high-end brakes, suspension and electronics.
Starting from the engine, it was revealed that the ZX-4R is capable of generating 57 kW or 77 hp, increasing to 59 kW/80 hp with the pressurized Ram Air system. The engine will also rev in excess of 15,000rpm and run a slip-resistant clutch, ensuring that those who appreciate a four-cylinder will enjoy an authentic super sports experience.
Kawasaki notes that low to medium torque should be ‘significant’, perhaps to address concerns about peak properties and power delivery.
The chassis is a high-tensile steel trellis frame connected to a long curved swingarm, which fits 37 mm Showa forks Separate Function Big Piston and rear cross-link rear suspension. On the SE and RR variants, you’ll find a preload adjuster on those forks, while the RR upgrades the rear shock to a Showa BFRC-Lite shock absorber, as seen on the ZX-10R with adjustable rear shock. fully adjusted.
Braking system includes dual 290 mm discs up front and four-piston radial calipers. At the rear is a 220 mm rear propeller, equipped with Nissin ABS – safety technology now mandatory in many markets. Tire sizes have also been revealed to be 120/70 and 160/60, with typical front dimensions and narrower rear than a supersport 600.
Of course, those are 17-inch wheels, with a five-spoke star pattern and Dunlop GPR300 radial tires that will be standard equipment.
On the electronic side we see a 4.3-inch TFT display, which allows the control of the KTRC traction control system, as well as four Power Modes (Sport, Road, Rain and Driver manual mode. ). On the ZX-4RR, a two-way quick shifter is also standard equipment. Circuit display modes are also available exclusively for tracking use, including lap timers.
The Kawasaki RIDEOLOGY app also offers additional functionality, including recording GPS routes and vehicle information. Lighting is LED throughout the car, with dual headlights in the typical Ninja style.
The Ninja ZX-4R will have a wet weight of 188 kg, slightly heavier than the regular parallel Ninja 400 at 168 kg, but much more powerful. Interestingly, the seat height is listed at 800 mm, which is very reasonable considering everything.
Additional equipment on the Ninja ZX-4RR 2023 includes a quick shifter, a smoke-colored windshield and the previously mentioned USB port, Kawasaki Racing Team graphics and high-end Showa shock absorbers.
