Joshua tree through diffuse filter

Have you ever looked at a scene and thought it was a bit sharp, almost harsh? It can be overwhelming, right? However, at the same time, you don’t want to make your photo blurry in an attempt to soften things up. Well, that’s where diffusion filters come in.

If you are not familiar with diffusion filter, they are a type of camera filter that can add a hazy, dreamy effect to your photos without sacrificing contrast or sharpness. They work by bending some of the light rays that pass through them, causing them to spread out and lose focus. This creates a soft, fuzzy look around bright objects in the scene, and can also lift shadows a bit.

You may have heard that diffuse filters can give your work a cinematic look, and that’s absolutely true. They can recreate the feel of old movies, with lenses, lighting, film and even the use of mesh on the lenses.

In this video, I took the filter to Joshua Tree and tested it on my machine. Canon EOS R6 . Camera with a 40mm lens. How will it react to street lights compared to lights? How does it work on LEDs compared to tungsten lamps?

In addition to adding a sense of nostalgia, diffuse filters can also make an image feel more distant or like a memory. The softer feel they create can really add to the atmosphere of a photo.
