John Deere Classic 2024 picks, predictions, odds, field: Golf insiders are losing Jordan Spieth at TPC Deere Run

Sepp Straka will try to win back-to-back John Deere Classic titles when he tees off at the 2024 John Deere Classic, which begins Thursday at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. No player has successfully defended a title at the John Deere Classic since Steve Stricker won three straight from 2009-11. Last year, Straka finished with a nine-under-par 62 on Sunday to win the tournament by two strokes. This year, he enters the event as one of three co-favorites with odds of +1800 for the 2024 John Deere Classic.

The other two tied for first place are two-time John Deere Classic champion Jordan Spieth and Sungjae Im. Aaron Rai (+2200), Maverick McNealy (+2500), Keith Mitchell (+2500) and Denny McCarthy (+2500) round out the top seven picks in the 2024 John Deere Classic field. One surprise: Nejad is completely overshadowing Jordan Spieth, despite being a three-way favorite in the John Deere Classic odds at +1800. Spieth has a history of success at TPC Deere Run, having won the tournament twice in 2013 and 2015. But he hasn’t played since his last victory here.

Additionally, Spieth has struggled a lot around the greens this season. He ranks 78th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: around the greens (+0.068), which is a career-worst mark. “His short odds in this tournament are just based on name recognition, and I think he’s in the +3000 range,” Nejad told SportsLine.

Instead, Nejad has a strong chance of defending his title against Sepp Straka (+1800). Ranked 24th in the world, Straka enters the John Deere Classic in excellent form. Over the past three months, he has had three top-five finishes and has qualified in eight of his nine starts. In contrast, in the first three months of the season, he had no top-10 finishes and failed to qualify in four of his eight events.
