Jermall Charlo is closer than ever to hit a big game against Canelo Alvarez.
The Houstonian powerhouse was on the front lines of a two-fight deal presented to Alvarez from PBC’s Al Haymon, the promotional banner that Charlo fought under, along with a second fight against David Benavidez. In total, Alvarez was offered up to $100 and is said to have given serious consideration to writing his name on the dotted line.
In the end, Alvarez decided to turn down PBC’s lucrative offer and instead chose to partner with promoter, Eddie Hearn. Now, the 31-year-old from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, will face WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, with a third match scheduled against longtime opponent, Gennadiy Golovkin.
With the Canelo Alvarez officially set to sea, Charlo is not pleased with the way things have turned out. If by chance Alvarez intends to face him in the near future, Charlo reveals that he would be willing to do anything to get him, including traveling halfway around the world.
“I’m going out there to fight in Mexico,” Charlo told ESNEWS in a recent interview. “Just to silence everyone, silence all the protesters.”
Currently, Charlo is sifting around the 160-pound mark in search of his next opponent. The WBC middleweight gymnast star was last seen in a match against Juan Macias Montiel on June 19, 2021. While he is rated as a heavyweight favorite, Charlo is fast. quickly discovered that Montiel was a lifelong challenger. In the end, however, Charlo defended his 160-pound title through unanimous decision.
Although Charlo is currently continuing his career and putting Alvarez in the rearview mirror, he still has his eye on the Mexican star. Regardless of who Charlo ultimately chooses to face, he is confident that a confrontation with Alvarez is essentially inevitable.
“In due time.”
