Jennifer Lawrence went on an epic press tour for her new movie Not feel hard, and the look she and stylist Jamie Mizrahi have created together is nothing short of a fashion girl’s dream. One, in particular, stands out to me for its complexity Mermaid in those 90s vibes. Allow me to explain.
When picturing mermaid core, think sequined pastels, scalloped prints, iridescent oysters, and fish scales—basically anything Ariel would wear. When I think of Lawrence, I don’t really associate her with the mermaid core aesthetic near Y2K, but while in New York City this week, she wore a mermaid core piece with a line. delicate twist. At first sight, I was convinced that I was looking at a two-layer dress. However, upon closer inspection (and seeing photos of her walking in her outfit), it became clear that underneath a layer of tulle was a pair of trousers. Is it possible that the pullover skirt style that was made famous by the likes of B* Witched in the ’90s has resurfaced again? Given the range of feedback trends we’ve seen recently, I shouldn’t be surprised at all.
In fact, this look is straight from the Armani Privé archive (the Fall 2019 couture collection to be exact), consisting of a sheer pink metallic jumpsuit paired with a fitted black blazer. And I don’t know about you, but aside from myself, it makes me want to go out and buy some iridescent things to mix and match in unexpected ways. Move to do it.
