JBBA Issues Stud Fee 2023
The Japan Stallion Breeders Association last week announced the stallion fees of 14 stallions for the 2023 breeding season and it is confirmed that Caravaggio newly recruited from Ashford Stud, will cost 3,000,000 yen (US$19,870).
JBBA’s purpose for breeding stallions is to support local breeders who run small and medium-sized businesses and the fees for their stallions tend to be set below market price. That’s why the fee for Caravaggio is almost half what it is in 2021, when he stands at $35,000.
The son of Go, dad , coached by Aidan O’Brien, has won five classified shares in Europe, including the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes (G1) and the Commonwealth Cup (G1), both in six sections. He started with Coolmore in Ireland in 2018 and was transferred to Ashford in 2020.
Caravaggio’s first crop is 3 years old this year and has submitted four graded stake winners, including Tenebrism who won the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes (G1) and the Haras d’Etreham Prix Jean Prat (G1).
