Japan just discovered 7,000 new islands

The number of islands in Japan has just doubled. Following the release of an updated map of the country, the Japan Geospatial Information Agency revealed that the country now has 14,125 islands—compared to 6,852, the official figure cited from the 1987 map. of the Japan Coast Guard.
You may be wondering how it is possible to miss thousands and thousands of islands. Well, first of all, the technology has improved dramatically in the more than 35 years since the last attempt. In addition, because Japan is an area with strong volcanoes, many other islands have sprouted up over the years.
