IU Health Hospital restricts visitors due to influenza and respiratory problems
Hospitals in Indiana’s largest health system and in the state’s most populous county have begun restricting visitors due to an increase in reported cases of influenza and other sugar viruses. other respiratory tract, they announced Monday.
The restrictions went into effect Tuesday at all IU Health hospitals. They begin Monday at all hospitals in Marion County, home of Indianapolis.
IU Health restrictions include immediate family only, two people at a time, and no guests under the age of 18 except a parent or guardian, and no one with flu-like symptoms or COVID-19. In addition, a mask is required.
Similar restrictions apply at all Marion County hospitals. Some exceptions are allowed under certain circumstances, such as expiration. Potential travelers are advised to check with each hospital.

“The flu is hitting Marion County hard now and much earlier than in recent years,” said Dr. Virginia Caine, director of the Marion County Department of Public Health.
The department said that during the week of November 20-26, the rate of flu-like illness reported in patients in Marion County emergency departments was the highest in 10 years. This rate is highest in the 5-17 age group.
