Leicas are polarizing by – and this is pretty much the whole reason – their price. However, the quality of their products is undisputed. One of Leica’s most famous creations is the Noctillux f/1.0, but how to use it?
I regularly write about Leica lenses and this brand always interests me. I spent a while heavily criticizing the price for what you get for your money, but after being invited to their London studio and experimenting with a few Leica cameras, I started understand. Similar to why I still love shooting on film cameras, it’s an experience that’s a bit difficult to quantify.
While I still find it very difficult to justify the price, I will own a Leica at some point in the future. The iconic brand has earned its status through a rich history – a history with unicorn lenses like the Noctilux 50mm f/1.0 starting in the 1970s. modern remake of this lens at a cost significantly less than the first run (and potentially easier to produce great results), the first version of the Noctilux is a collector’s item .
The results from this lens, when extended, are certainly beautiful and – until quite recently – a unique look. Now, however, Leica has modern versions, and so do many other foreign manufacturers. I can’t help but wonder if the line of lenses that produce the same mushy bokeh and even the radial effect at the edge of the frame are driving down the value of the lens photographereven if collectors are not discouraged.
