Is Lake Mead shrinking because of climate? – Is it good?
Steve Milloy
Wall Street Journal reporter Jim Carlton speak Lake Mead is shrinking because of climate change. That is it? We report. You decide.
Here is Carlton’s statement:
First, Lake Mead’s elevation history is actually quite volatile.
And the altitude is relatively low now – about 1,070 feet.
But today’s elevation isn’t much different from the lows of 1956 and 1965 (about 1,090 feet, shown in the first chart), especially when you consider the increase in water use and management. anthropogenic effects on reservoir water levels over time.
Without a doubt, drought is affecting Lake Mead. But drought in the West is natural (the region is desert anyway), and Lake Mead has relatively lower levels of 100 ppm CO2 than it used to be.
