Instagram introduces new feature that allows users to organize their feeds into ‘Following’ and ‘Favorites’

On Wednesday, Instagram plans to introduce two new ways to catch up on your feed. According to the company’s press release, the app will now give users the choice to sort their feeds by ‘follow’ and ‘favorite’.

Essentially, the new functionality gives you more control over what you’re seeing on your feed. This change was inspired by the many users on the app, who were able to use their feed in different ways, including discovering “new creators in posts.” recommended” or follow family and friends.

“We want people to feel satisfied with the time they spend on Instagram, by providing them with ways to shape their experience into what is best for them,” the press release said.

The new tools will be available on the feeds tab. Users will be able to tap the word ‘Instagram’ located at the top right corner of the screen. A single tap launches a short tab with ‘follow’ and ‘favorites’ choices.’

“Following shows you posts from people you follow in the order they were shared,” the release said. “Favorites shows you the latest posts from a list of specific accounts you choose, such as from your closest friends and favorite creators.”

Favorites will allow users to create lists of up to 50 people. Similar to ‘best friends’ on Instagram Story, your favorite feed list can be changed and updated at any time. And Instagram won’t take your place when you decide to tweak your list. This means that users added or removed will not be notified when and if any changes occur. As the name suggests, user posts categorized in favorites will “show up higher in your homepage feed.”

All posts, regardless of the selected feed option, will be displayed in reverse chronological order. This means that the feed will always start with the latest post made. As announced by Instagram, their research shows they’re taking a step in the most engaging direction.
