Inon Unveils UCL-G100 SD and UCL-G55 SD Close-up Lenses for GoPro

Inon has introduced two wet macro lenses—the UCL-G100 SD and the UCL-G55 SD—specially designed for GoPro. Compared to the company’s existing close-up lens for action cameras, the UCL-G165II SD, the UCL-G100 SD offers twice the magnification, while the UCL-G55 SD provides up to four times the magnification. Like the UCL-G165II SD, the new lenses are available with Inon’s SD bayonet mount for use with the company’s SD Front Mask for GoPro, which is compatible with the HERO9–HERO12.

The UCL-G100 SD comes with two Focus Sticks, which attach to the lens barrel, indicating the minimum shooting distance, while the UCL-G55 SD comes with two Focus Sticks that show minimum shooting distance and focus range—making it easier to focus and providing a powerful tool for capturing in-focus video. The distance between the two Focus Sticks indicates the horizontal shooting range (when the camera’s field-of-view is set to WIDE). The Focus Sticks can be flipped up when not in use and removed from the lens when necessary.

The UCL-G165II SD, UCL-G100 SD, and UCL-G55 SD offer an approximate angle of view of 100°, 90° and 45°, respectively. Where the UCL-G165II SD is designed for shooting macro subjects including their surrounding environment, the UCL-G100 SD is, according to Inon, an “all-purpose close-up lens with a significantly shorter minimum focus distance while maintaining an underwater angle of view similar to that of the GoPro alone and a deeper depth of field than other lenses in its class.” By contrast, the UCL-G55 “enables ultra-high magnification close-up photography unprecedented with GoPro and is specially designed for photographing small critters such as nudibranchs.”

Inon is also releasing a Focus Stick compatible with the UCL-G165II SD. It can be mounted either at the top or the bottom of the lens. The tip of the Focus Stick indicates the minimum shooting distance. It also indicates the edge of the field of view when the camera’s field-of-view is set to Linear. The Focus Stick rotates 360° and has clicks every 90°, so it can be instantly flipped up when not in use.
