Indonesia has celebrated Independence Day for the first time in its futuristic new capital Nusantara – with festivities kept on a smaller scale as construction continues.
The country hopes to officially inaugurate the city on the 79th anniversary of its declaration of independence in 1945 after centuries of Dutch rule and then Japanese occupation during World War II.
But the project on Borneo island has faced construction delays and funding problems.
The event is seen as the biggest legacy of outgoing President Joko Widodo, who attended the events alongside his successor Prabowo Subianto.
