The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is one of the lined up venues not only in racing but in all sports in America. For more than 80 years, the 2.5-mile highway has hosted only one event a year, the Indianapolis 500. This tradition ended in 1994 when NASCAR visited the track for the inaugural Brickyard 400, followed by Formula One in 2000 for the US Grand Prix. IMSA announced today that its flagship series, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, will return to the Brickyard next season.

IMSA President John Doonan said in a statement:

“There has been mutual interest and many conversations between IMSA and IMS management for quite some time to bring our premium endurance racing brand back to Speedway and its fans. our mass grave. As we launch an exciting new era in 2023 and introduce GTP as our flagship archetype portfolio along with many other successful categories and our accepted series, the time is right. for a full weekend of IMSA action in Indianapolis and on NBC next fall. “

The IMSA Battle on the Bricks will be a two-hour and forty-minute race on a 14-turn, 2,439-mile highway on September 17, 2023, which will be the penultimate event of the IMSA 2023 season. The three-day event will also feature the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series of events in a four-hour race on Saturday that will end in the dark. The motorsports sanctioning body has also confirmed that the 2024 and 2025 races at the Brickyard will be longer events ending at night, along with the Rolex 24 at Daytona and other bike races as one Endurance Cup round.

IMSA visited the Indianapolis Motorway for the last time in 2014 for the Brickyard Grand Prix. However, weekend spectators in 2023 will also have the unique opportunity to camp on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway campus. The popular venue does not allow racegoers to camp in the yard during any other highway race weekend.
