Idiomatic Climbs to Eighth in NTRA Thoroughbred Poll

An easy victory in the Oct. 8 Spinster Stakes (G1) at Keeneland has vaulted Juddmonte’s Idiomatic  into eighth in the latest National Thoroughbred Racing Association Top Thoroughbred Poll. She is among two females in the top 10, the other being the quick sprinter Echo Zulu , who sits in third.

Idiomatic, a towering Curlin   filly who was 19th in the poll the preceding week, is expected to make her next start in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) Nov. 4 at Santa Anita Park for trainer Brad Cox.

Also gaining in the poll was Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable’s Up to the Mark  , who, in his first start since June, rallied to win the Oct. 7 Coolmore Turf Mile (G1T) by a nose at Keeneland over Master of the Seas . The Todd Pletcher-trained Up to the Mark climbed from eighth to fifth.

The poll, conducted by national media and covering racing performances through Sunday, represents horses competing for Horse of the Year. The poll concludes Nov. 7, shortly after the Breeders’ Cup.

Belmont Stakes (G1) and Travers Stakes (G1) winner Arcangelo  continues to rank first. He is the anticipated favorite in the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) Nov. 4.
