“I think it will happen.” David Benavidez feels he will eventually have to face Canelo Alvarez

Everyone wants to see David Benavidez fight Canelo Alvarez. Everyone, except Canelo. At least for the time being. While it’s a tall order to accuse Canelo of knocking out an impressive opponent, there’s little doubt that the future hall of famer has proven himself no longer eager to face Benavidez any time soon. . Still, give Benavidez credit for being willing to move on. “To be honest with you, I did everything in my power to make that fight happen,” CBS quoted Benavidez as saying. “I beat fighters they told me I couldn’t beat. I was the No. 1 candidate for the past three years but my hands were tied.”

In fact, Benavidez wants everyone to know that he is not responsible for a fight with Canelo not working out. “The only reason this fight didn’t happen is because Canelo didn’t want it to happen,” Benavidez said, “because he knew very well that when he faced me, I was going to bring all of my titles with me. he came home.” As things stand, Canelo is the undisputed super middleweight world champion, while Benavidez is moving up in rankings to face Oleksandr Gvozdyk for the interim WBC lightweight championship this weekend in Las Vegas .

However, Benavidez feels the Canelo fight will eventually come to a close. “I think it will happen,” he said, “but I don’t know when. I think this is too big a fight to leave on the table like that. Everyone wants to see this fight and I also want to participate in this fight. I want to show everyone that I am the best in the world but I don’t know when that will happen.”

It’s not that Benavidez isn’t focused on the present. “I was trying to unify the titles but I didn’t get that chance (at super middleweight) so I went up to 175. Now, this fight will put me in position to fight for it all titles at 175 and I will continue to be a dominant force in whatever weight class I choose to compete in.”

The truth is that Benavidez may be right about the Canelo fight finally coming to fruition. Canelo can do a lot of things, but he’s not known for avoiding dangerous opposition. There is a very good possibility – if not a complete possibility – that this man will actually be signed to fight Benavidez in the future. However, Canelo is a man who has the right to choose who, when and where to fight.
