This week, we covered some of the drive’s reviews. We also did a follow-up review of 2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line and summarize some of the takeaways on practical range, chargeability, and liveability — including how it feels to go back to the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Two EV recalls are illustrated when the over-the-air update handles them all and when they are still irreplaceable for eyes and hands. A small number of Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs are being recalled because of a safety software issue. But by the time Ford sends out a traditional recall notice, many owners’ vehicles will have withdraw the remedy, send it online. And after that Lucid Air has been recalled for something that requires a reality check — in its case the harness assembly, with a very small number of 1,117 made up to May 4, could result in loss of dashboard functionality device.

Automakers have been making a series of joint venture announcements about battery manufacturing. Next up is Stellantis, which on Tuesday announced a Indiana Battery Factory with Samsung SDI—To deliver upcoming Stellantis EVs from Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, and perhaps more. Separately, Polestar announced that it invest in battery technology company StoreDotaims to mass produce EV batteries capable of increasing range by nearly 100 miles in five minutes of charging — by 2024. Polestar will test silicon-based battery technology in a “proof of concept car,” will then go into production as early as 2026.

In the US and Europe, the adoption of electric vehicles has been helping to alleviate the hardship caused by sanctions that halted or curbed Russian oil exports, following the invasion of Ukraine. Electric vehicles have helped avoid 3% of global oil demandwith plug-in hybrids being part of it.

A recycling truck being recycled into an electric vehicle? That’s what the UK company Lunaz, known for its excellent restorations of classic Jaguars, Rolls-Royces and Bentleys has revealed. It claims that it electric garbage truck 80% reduction in embedded carbon compared to a new garbage truck.

Mercedes-Benz has released a video showcasing its EQG electric SUV what it calls G-Turn—Using its four engines to do what looks like what Rivian calls Tank Rotation.

The EPA has released some eligibility details for the initial $500 million portion of the $5 billion school bus program. While assistance will be prioritized to “high-need” schools, other schools are eligible through a lottery, and the program will help subsidize two-way charging and technology in the future.

European Union regulators are said to be aiming to include brake dust emission limit to the upcoming Euro 7 standard. As at least one study suggests, this number can actually be higher for electric vehicles due to their additional battery mass—yes, despite regen braking and single-pedal driving.

The District of Columbia is considering an intended proposal to keep the vehicles on its streets smaller and lighter. It will hit heavy-duty trucks and other large internal combustion vehicles with a $500 annual registration fee, but allow some reductions for electric vehicles.

Volkswagen is said to be shopping in the US Factory location for the upcoming Scout EV brand, which it has now made clear will be independent of the Volkswagen brand in the US – and thus, possibly bypassing VW dealers in the US. As executives recently revealed, it can also sell commercial vehicles.

For those without street parking, there’s hope — if you live in Seattle. Pacific Northwest City has a program that you can request — after you define the boundaries with your neighbors, perhaps—a level 2 curb charger has been installed free, with a flat fee per kWh for energy. Will your city be next?

Common market car shoppers are more likely to trust automakers older than Tesla or newer EV startups like Rivian, found a top consulting firm in its survey – although their responses also suggest that the current crop of EV products does not. as expected.

While that may not be very helpful, another study has shown, potentially, one of the best things you can do this weekend if you’re an EV driver: show others your car and answer some questions. Research results from JD Power show what we’ve known for a long time: take the butt from the semi-human seat on the tram. Automakers don’t really do a good job of familiarizing themselves with electric vehicles, with nearly a third of shoppers rejecting electric vehicles simply because of a lack of information.
