Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets a major facelift, finally looks like an SUV

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 Technically an SUV, but it looks more like a large hatchback. The new XRT changes that.

Launching in the US, this new, more rugged version of the Ioniq 5 follows the XRT’s standard with a raised suspension (up 23mm), rugged 235/60R18 all-terrain tires, and unique front and rear styling with “digital camouflage” cladding.

Unfortunately, if you want to own this electric vehicle (EV) in Australia, you’re out of luck.

“We think the XRT would be a great addition to the Australian Ioniq 5 range, but currently the model is manufactured in the US and therefore only available in their market,” a Hyundai Australia spokesperson said.

While the model will be built at Hyundai’s new factory in the US state of Georgia, the Ioniq 5 for the Australian market is sourced from Korea.

The XRT will get dual-motor all-wheel drive and a larger 84kWh battery, along with a tuned suspension.

Approach and departure angles are 19.8 degrees and 30.0 degrees respectively, up from 17.5 degrees and 25.4 degrees of the regular Ioniq 5.

There are two exclusive colors: Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl. The car also has black badges and mirror caps.

Inside, the seats are upholstered in H-Tex fabric; there’s also a black headliner and all-weather floor mats.

We may be missing the XRT here, but Hyundai Australia recently launched the facelifted Ioniq 5.

This version has a larger 63kWh and 84kWh battery, improved body rigidity, refined exterior styling, interior and exterior cosmetic enhancements, a new N Line package, and Hyundai’s next-generation infotainment system with wireless smartphone mirroring.

While Hyundai isn’t bringing the Ioniq 5 XRT to Australia, it will eventually introduce the XRT model locally with Santa Fe XRT expected later this month.

Hyundai has also revealed the XRT version of the Tucson And FenceAlthough these have not been confirmed for our market.
