Hurricane Nicole expected to make landfall soon over Florida coast: NPR

Hurricane Nicole began approaching the Florida coast Wednesday night and its impact is expected to be felt across many southern states in the coming days. according to the National Hurricane Center.
As of 10 p.m. ET Wednesday, the storm was about 75 miles northeast of West Palm Beach, Florida, with a top speed of 75 mph. A hurricane warning is in effect from Boca Raton to Flagler County, while a storm watcher is in place for Lake Okeechobee.
The east and west coasts of Florida, as well as the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina, are expected to see tropical storms Thursday, triggering high tides and “large and damaging waves” damage along the Atlantic coast,” NHC said.
“Do not focus on Nicole’s exact track as it is a major hurricane with hazards extending north of the center, outside the forecast area,” the NHC said.
The Associated Press reports that 45 of Florida’s 67 counties are in a state of emergency.
The Appalachian Mountains could also experience some flooding on Friday, which could extend as far as New York and Pennsylvania.
According to the Florida Climate Center, the Atlantic hurricane season typically lasts 6 months from June 1 to November 30 and peaks around mid-August to late October.
