I also learned that, according to an MIT study, having strong interpersonal relationships with people from different cultures can actually foster creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. .
I read in an MIT Sloan interview with the study’s lead author, Jackson Lu, “Creativity is connecting the dots. “When someone has a close relationship with someone from another culture, they collect more dots to connect with the people they already have.”
How can these connections benefit us in the workplace? How can they prove useful as we seek solutions to social challenges? I think back to my relationship with India and wonder how my personal relationships there can continue to foster thinking outside, personally and professionally.
Journey for all
Suddenly, I noticed that the mouse clicks had faded and my colleagues were starting to look up from their laptops. A lively discussion ensued. Some show how the quiz helps people see they’re more exposed to global ideas than they realize, others reflect on the resources they put out — proving that the tool is simple. These insights can spark provocative conversations about how we learn from the rest of the world and the value those insights hold to advance health equity.
Since the quiz was introduced, we’ve heard from similarly curious people, such as the co-chair of a charity committee, who used the tool to lead led a youth group discussion on how to be a global citizen and their peers were inspired to add more international news stories to their daily reading.
Universal learning is often seen as exclusive and far-fetched, but the test opens the way for it to become inclusive and accessible to all.
