Wide angle lens popular because we often want to capture all the beauty of the landscape in one frame, but what makes them difficult to handle is that they tend to push the background away and shrink in size. This means that without a foreground element, the image feels very empty and two-dimensional. The foreground element restores a sense of depth to the image and provides the viewer with a natural entry point from which they can move through the middle and background.
