How the world reacted to a pariah state
Russia has been largely isolated from the global arena following its brutal invasion of Ukraine. And yet, the international community continues to engage with other countries accused of serious human rights abuses. That begs the question: what does it take to be considered a disregarded state, and who decides?
DAVOS, Switzerland — When the world’s political and business elites gathered at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week, there was one notable exception.
Russian public figures and business delegates – once an important presence in the Swiss mountain resort – were barred from the forum this January, reflecting the country’s exclusion from the forum. the international community more widely removed after President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
However, elsewhere along the forum’s famous promenade, as well as on the global stage, other countries accused of violating international law are also represented.
