When a mother and two children fall through hard times and become homeless, she feels she has no choice but to give up their beloved dog, Lilo. After a kind Samaritan found Lilo alone and took her to a shelter, they begged the public to try to reunite Lilo with her loving family.
After that, many people in their community offered to donate dog food so this family could stay together.
When a good Samaritan finds Lilo wandering around with a heartbreaking note clipped to her collar and lanyard still on, they decide that the best thing to do is take her to the hospital. McKamey Animal Center.
The note read: “My name is Lilo. Love me. My mom couldn’t keep me and was homeless with 2 kids. She tried her best but couldn’t get help. I’m too expensive for her. She really loves me and I am a great dog and love to be loved. Please don’t abuse me. Please keep my name as it is.”
Making the extremely difficult decision to bring a family member back home is not something an animal lover would take lightly. And, after reading that note, it’s clear that sweet Lilo is immensely loved. Apparently, Lilo’s mother felt compelled to make this incredibly painful decision due to her current circumstances.
Perhaps she was embarrassed, couldn’t get to the shelter in person, or didn’t know that there were resources that could help. But luckily, McKamey Animal Center knows that the most important thing now is to find Lilo’s mother and bring their family back together.
They can simply rehomed her. They may have kept notes and never showed a single soul. But instead, they tackle the underlying issue with incredible compassion and understand that Lilo misses her mother and deserves a chance to find who she is. They explained that they understood how hard it was for her to make this decision and reassured her that they would keep her name and find Lilo a great new home. Sweet Lilo not only found her way to the rescue but the rescue team did everything they could to find her mom and connect her with the help she needed! Plus, the community came together to support one of their own. What started as something heartbreaking has actually turned into something heartwarming.
