Dubbed the “Evening of the Stars,” this 12 months’s draft leaves little to be desired in weanlings with distinctive physicals by industrial stallions, profitable graded mares who’ve additionally produced graded runners in foal to distinguished stallions, and top-form fillies with current success on the racetrack.

You by no means know what to anticipate, however all indicators appear optimistic.”

The power created amongst breeders, homeowners, and patrons going from the yearling gross sales to Breeders’ Cup weekend and into the breeding inventory gross sales is electrical, and for a great purpose. Final 12 months Spendthrift Farm bought 2018 champion 3-year-old filly and 2020 champion older grime feminine Monomoy Girl  from ELiTE, agent, for $9.5 million, a world record for a racing/broodmare prospect sold at public auction. Shedaresthedevil arrives at The November Sale

Twenty-one grade/group 1 winners slated to go through the ring Tuesday. Four fillies and mares came directly from the Breeders’ Cup: Kimari  (Hip 195), Proud Emma  (Hip 224), Queen Supreme  (Hip 227), and Shedaresthedevil  (Hip 232).

“Queen Supreme is an interesting mare on offer. She’s a grade 1 winner in South Africa by Exceed And Excel , and she is stunning,” said Meg Levy of Bluewater Sales, which is consigning the 5-year-ole mare. “You wouldn’t name her Queen Supreme if she weren’t gorgeous. We hope she will be appealing to the Australian and Japanese markets. She is an exquisite physical and will also fit the American market well.”

ELiTE accounts for four of the grade 1 offerings.

“The two headliners would easily be Aunt Pearl , a Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T) winner in 2020,” Bradley Weisbord, founder and managing partner of ELiTE, said. “She shipped to Fasig-Tipton in terrific condition from Bruce Jackson at Fair Hill Equine Therapy. A little bit of a disappointing year not getting her back to her form; she was undefeated as a 2-year-old winning lasix free. With her top form, she beat out Mother Earth  and Campanelle .

Dayoutoftheoffice  is one of two Into Mischief   grade 1 winners to go on offer at auction ever. She won the Frizette Stakes (G1) and was second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), both in 2020.

Etoile  won the E. P. Taylor Stakes (G1T) at Woodbine final 12 months and is by high sire Siyouni .

Duopoly  is our fourth grade 1 winner. In 2020 she took the American Oaks (G1T).

The late Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farm has two mares consigned with Taylor Made Sales Agency.

“It’s a little bittersweet, we are selling two nice fillies for Fox Hill Farm. We have sold so many high-quality horses for them over the past years,” Mark Taylor, vice president of sales and marketing for Taylor Made Sales, said. “We have Jolie Olimpica  (Hip 193) and Windmill  (Hip 258). When you see them, they are very typical of Fox Hill quality. They always have good-looking horses that have performed on the track. These two mares have been out a lot and are being very well received.”

Seven grade 1 winners will be offered in foal to popular sires Into Mischief, Uncle Mo  , and Quality Road  . Fourteen grade 1-winning racing or broodmare prospects will be up for consideration, and the opportunity to add any of these prospects to a racing stable or broodmare band will be enticing for buyers.

“We have a special group of mares,” Levy said of Bluewater’s consignment. “Valiance  (Hip 251) was a winner in last year’s Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (G1). She is out of a grade 1 winner (Last Full Measure ), who is also out of a grade 1 winner (Lazy Slusan ). She’s a triple threat and very unusual, making her a collector’s item.”

“This sale is always fun. You get a select group of quality horses,” Taylor said. “Princess Noor  (Hip 222) is the queen of the show. She showed amazing talent, so brilliant at 2 years old … if there is a better-looking horse on the sales grounds, then I need to go look at them because she is a queen, in-foal to Into Mischief … she’s the whole package.”

A collection of 141 well-bred, top physical weanlings sired by both new and well-established sires has been cataloged. They include progeny of top stallions Into Mischief, Curlin  , and Quality Road, as well as leading freshman sire Gun Runner. Also on offer are weanlings from the second crop of Justify and from the first crop of Audible  , Maximus Mischief  , Mitole  , Omaha Beach  , and Vino Rosso  .

Taylor Made Sales Agency has 15 weanlings scheduled to be offered.

“We have never had this big of a group of high-quality foals,” Taylor said. “Two, in particular, are horses that you normally wouldn’t see at a weanling sale: an Into Mischief colt out of Moi (Hip 75) and a Curlin filly out of Sippican Harbor  (Hip 107).”

Taylor Made consigns one of only two Constitution   weanlings in the sale, a colt (Hip 135) out of Year of Promise, a half sister to grade 1 winners Smiling Tiger   and She’s a Tiger .

“The Uncle Mos and a Medaglia d’Oro   (weanlings) are yearling quality horses that are being offered early,” Taylor said. “As strong as the yearling market was this year, I think some smart money will be trying to get in earlier in the cycle and avoid some competition instead of knocking heads with everybody at (Fasig-Tipton) Saratoga next year or (Keeneland) September.”

Mitole, whose first crop of foals are on offer, is represented by four weanlings in the sale.

“I like the Mitoles I have seen so far,” Levy commented. “I particularly like ours, Hip 115. He has a nice walk and covers the ground nicely. He looks more two-turn looking than some of the ones I have seen, being Mitole was a sprinter.”

On Monday morning at the Newtown Paddocks was hopping, buyers were busy moving through the barns shopping the weanlings and mares.

“Weanling traffic has been bustling since we started showing Sunday,” Levy said. “Mares can be a little spotty with all of the ground buyers have to cover. As a consignor, I am always nervous these couple of days because the people do move back and forth.”

The main catalog was printed with 259 hips, and Hips 260-274 are part of the supplemental catalog. As of Monday evening, there are 69 horses withdrawn.

“We hope tomorrow to put a lot of smiles on people’s faces, both sellers and buyers, with hopeful future success with what they buy Nov. 9.”
