Hendy Woods Tops Mint Julep Stakes
Stonestreet Stables Double Winner Hendy Woods was a morning favorite 3-1 in an extensive cast of 10, and mares entered for $200,000 Old Forester Mint Julep Stakes (G3T) June 5 at Churchill Downs.
Coached by Mark Casse, Hendy Woods finished fourth in last year’s Mint Julep, a 1/16-mile race for older dogs and horses on grass. Dear Daughter of Uncle Mo has five lifetime wins on her résumé from 13 that started with winning bets at the Indiana Grand Stakes in 2020 and last year’s One Dreamer Stakes in Kentucky Downs.
“She took a break after (October 9) First Lady shares (G1T) and returned Fair Grounds & Slots with us this winter,” said Casse assistant David Carroll at Churchill. I think she ran a reliable last in Modesty (G3T) after a tough ride and will be in this race in her third start since that break. “
Another mare will enter the Mint Julep to refresh as the Bal Mar Equine multi-stakes winner Dalika . Al Stall Jr.’s intern. returned to his Churchill Downs shed on Thursday after doing most of the prep for her 6-year-old bow at the Skylight Training Center.
Stall said: “The break seemed like it took a bit of her edge away. “She seems to have enjoyed herself and it will take a little while longer for her to get back into race shape. I think the position is a good return.”
