Heaven Burns Reda new RPG from Clannad and Angel beats! developer Key, will launch on February 10, 2022. This information is derived from the game’s final pre-release trailer, which Key uploaded to the game’s official YouTube channel.
The trailer sets the premise of Heaven Burns Red. A mysterious alien life form known as “Cancer” is attacking humanity and conquering most of the Earth’s surface. With humanity on the brink of disaster, it develops a new weapon called the Seraph. Only young women with certain talents can use the Seraph, and those capable are assembled into Seraph Units to fight the Cancers.
One of such Seraph holders is Ruka Kayamori. She is the captain of Seraph Squad 31A, and the former guitarist/vocalist of the popular rock band She Is Legend. She needed to balance her duties as a Seraph wielder with her desire to return to her crew with her comrades. The game itself will feature visual novel-style storytelling segments. These will include character dialogue, custom event art, and selections. Field exploration segments will allow the character to explore humanity’s last hiding places, and 3D battles will showcase the character’s abilities against Cancers.

Heaven Burns Red was first announced in 2019 as Key celebrates its 21st anniversary. Since the game is a mobile RPG, the development was a collaboration between Key himself and Wright Flyer Studios, the company that developed the game. Afterlost – Shoumetsu Toshi. The announcement also celebrates Jun Maeda’s return as creative head for the first time in 13 years. Maeda’s previous job was Little Busters! Maeda wrote the main script and produced the music for the game. After multiple delays to its first 2020 launch, Key confirmed its final duration in February 2022, then narrowed it down the following week from this trailer.
Heaven Burns Red launching in Japan for iOS and Android on February 10, 2022. Localization plans are yet to be detailed.
