“You have to be willing to roll the dice in this sport.”
So promoter Eddie Hearn said in one talkSPORT interview. If what he claims is true, then Canelo Alvarez is definitely busy dice in 2022. This May, the man will face light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol. He is then expected to face arch rival Gennady Golovkin in September (provided he and Golovkin win their spring match). That’s a full schedule for a contemporary battle star. Top boxers are known to only fight twice a year. But most of all, however, Canelo faces the kind of serious competition in Bivol and Golovkin that top boxers rarely do. However, Hearn points out that Canelo has no intention of stopping there.
“Canelo Alvarez,” Hearn said talkSPORT, “Wanted to fight in Great Britain.” Furthermore, Hearn said: “Canelo Alvarez and Eddie Reynoso both want to fight in December.” That’s three games in a year – with at least two of those matches being quite competitive on paper. “They asked me to look at options for Guadalajara and London,” Hearn added. “We have John Ryder with a 168-pound tie and you’ve got a winner in this fight (Craig Richards-Joshua Buatsi). Both are great options, great opponents for Canelo Alvarez in December.”
However, Hearn admits that the third Canelo fight in 2022 requires more than just talking. “There’s a lot that has to be right for everyone,” he said, “but if Canelo Alvarez wants to fight in London in December, we say he wants to explore that option, the winner of the fight.” This (Richards -Buatsi) is the clear leader, because this is the official knockout for winner Canelo against Bivol. ”
England’s Hearn, of course, wants to see Canelo fight “across the pond” in the UK. Canelo is active in North America and it will be interesting to see him fight, a sold-out European arena later this year. “I certainly would love to bring Canelo Alvarez to the UK.” No doubt a lot of England fans will too.
