Now that these Squishmallow plush toys have become popular, that means all kinds of crossovers. Pokemon and Sonic Hedgehog The characters have their turn. Now, the latest category involves a monster Squishmallow Collaboration. Godzilla, Mothra, Mechagodzilla and Rodan were all part of the first four seasons. After finding the two local stores, I was amazed at how strong the similarity was, as well as how friendly they looked in this incarnation.
Both the Godzilla and Mothra Squishmallows that I picked up are from the 8-inch toy line. This makes them a bit too small to use as a real pillow, such as Variant Pikachu. They’re more of a decoration like a throw pillow or something to hug. (Both are a bit too tall to put on my usual stuffed animal shelf with some Crossing animals and Seasonal story luxurious, as they dominate the other two.) But they fit very well on my desk or on my desk chair when I’m not using it.
The quality on both deluxe is pretty good. Each was soft and well made. Godzilla has a number of spines along its back, leading down to its tail. He also has a friendly smile for him. I’d say I’m more impressed with Mothra, in terms of quality. There are many different fabrics used, the material of the eye also has a classification. Plus, like a giant moth, her stomach is pretty soft. The only thing against her that I would say is that the wings could be a bit bigger, as on display you can barely see them.
Mothra’s level of detail and more attention to design also means it’s more recognizable than the two. Even if you can’t see the wings, who will notice monster and the existence of Squishmallows inspired by it would probably be able to tell who this is. Meanwhile, Godzilla may look a bit like a regular dinosaur of the same color as Godzilla. Unless you turn it around and see the three rows of spikes in the back, you probably don’t know which character it is.
I think what I appreciate most about it is just having a kind of friendliness monster toy. I grew up watching old movies with my grandfather, but it seems that when I was a kid, most of the items related to plastic toys and drawings didn’t appeal to me. It’s true that I now have a space decorated for such things, but there’s an extra option, especially with Mothra being in the announced lot, which means a chance to get an assortment of stuffed animals I loved it when I was a kid.
Both Godzilla and Mothra Squishmallows are interesting options that essentially provide more options for those who want merchandise based on the series, but perhaps not the more traditional ones. Both are collectibles for all ages. They’re the right size, not obnoxiously too big, but can be a nice accent on the couch or bed. Also, while Godzilla can be confused with some sort of unrelated prehistoric creature, the similarities are generally good. Especially in the case of Mothra, who was quite special. They are an interesting addition.
